Freud and Third-Party Payment: A Historical Note
Abstract
The author presents excerpts from the diary of Joseph Wortis to illustrate Freud’s analysis of a man whose fees were paid by a third party. Freud made no specific recommendations concerning third-party payment, but the fact that he undertook Wortis’ analysis seems to indicate that he did not find it an obstacle. Although this analysis was unsuccessful, the failure does not seem to be related to the type of payment.
