ELECTROMYOGRAPHIC FINDINGS IN A CASE OF CATATONIA
Abstract
A patient with the typical findings of catatonia was studied electromyographically while maintaining a fatigue-producing posture. Results would suggest that despite maximum use of motor units, the subject was able to delay the appearance of muscular fatigue clinically and electromyographically. The thesis that fatigue is delayed by the interaction of a small number of motor units is questioned. This interrelationship of observable physical occurrences with psychodynamic formulations provides a fertile area for additional study.
