Familial unipolar depressive illness: a pedigree study

The author reports a study of five generations of a family in which several members had unipolar depression responsive to tricyclic medication. He concludes that genetic factors play an important role in this disorder and emphasizes the need for pharmacogenetic studies in psychiatry.
