CONSTITUTIONAL FACTORS IN THE PROGNOSIS OF SCHIZOPHRENIA
Abstract
1. Hebephrenics have a significantly poorer prognosis than the rest of the sample. Except for this, the relationship between diagnosis and prognosis was not found to be significant.
2. A significant relationship exists between mesomorphy and paranoid schizophrenia as also between ectomorphy and hebephrenic schizophrenia.
3. When the endomorphs were contrasted to the combined ectomorphic and mesomorphic groups they were found to have a significantly poorer prognosis. A larger proportion of endomorphs was still hospitalized than were patients of other body types. The conclusion of the first review, that mesomorphy was related to good prognosis, did not hold true for the longer time period.
