To the Editor: The purpose of our article was to present the most comprehensive information available at that time regarding the weight-gain-inducing potential of various antipsychotic agents. Of course, the information available at any one point in time will never be complete. Therefore, we are pleased to see the letter from Drs. Hellewell and Haddad and would like to present some additional information regarding quetiapine of which we have now become aware. According to the Canadian product monograph (1), “In clinical trials mean weight gain after 4–8 weeks of treatment was approximately 2.1 kg, after 18–26 weeks, 3.5 kg, and at 1 year, 5.6 kg.” These data then are consistent with those cited by Drs. Hellewell and Haddad on short-term weight gain but show markedly greater weight gain at 1 year. We hope this information is useful to readers.
