Growing Up With Autism: Working With School-Age Children and Adolescents

Over the past 10 years there have been major strides in our understanding of autism. Research advances have increasingly been translated into clinical practice, but unfortunately books that summarize this knowledge remain relatively uncommon, particularly with reference to adolescents. This volume does much to address this gap.

The editors have organized an impressive list of contributors who cover a range of topics of interest to parents and professionals alike. These include chapters focused on sensory process, emotional development, communication, medical assessment, and sexuality. Another series of chapters focus on the family and caregivers of individuals with autism and cover issues such as advocacy, parent resources, and leisure time. A final section of the book reviews community aspects of intervention and will be of particular interest to teachers and care providers. Filled with practical information, this volume will be of much help to professionals working with children and adolescents with autism and their families.
