It is difficult in today’s more enlightened psychoanalytic atmosphere to realize how stifling and controlling the intellectual psychoanalytic orthodoxy was at the time Alexander began to publish his modifications. It would be a complete misconception to interpret what I wrote as indicating “faint praise” for him.
