The expanded role of the urban pediatric hospital in the delivery of comprehensive medical care has been accompanied by increasing referrals of patients with social and emotional problems. Clinical and geographical responsibilities must be delineated to make effective use of the urban pediatric hospital and reduce duplication of mental health services.
