PHYSICAL SIGNS IN SCHIZOPHRENIA
Abstract
1. Physical signs in schizophrenia are listed and classified according to type.
2. A sign of which no previous mention has been found in the literature is described—spasm of the radial arteries. It is very frequent in catatonic schizophrenia, and is of some diagnostic value. It is apparently related to the other signs of sympathicotonia seen in the hands and feet, but is more constant.
3. It is suggested that similar vasospasm in the brain might cause organic changes resulting in schizophrenia, and the desirability for further studies along these lines is emphasized.
