PSROs: Problems and Potentials for Psychiatry
Abstract
The authors discuss the difficulties and opportunities that the Professional Standards Review Organization (PSRO) can create in psychiatry. They examine the issues of alternatives to admission, length of stay, quality versus cost decisions, confidentiality, multidisciplinary concerns, and psychiatric representation in PSROs as well as the adverse reactions of organized medicine to the PSRO program.
