In this chapter, we examine the defining characteristics of the nonpedophilic and nontransvestic paraphilias and consider general principles relevant to their clinical management. Pedophilia is addressed in Chapter 43 in this volume. We focus our discussion on the remaining paraphilias delineated in DSM-IV-TR (American Psychiatric Association 2000):
