Correction
In the October issue of the Journal, there were errors in an article by Lennart Heimer, M.D., titled "A New Anatomical Framework for Neuropsychiatric Disorders and Drug Abuse" (Am J Psychiatry 2003; 160:17261739). On page 1730, in the right column, fifth line from the bottom, the sentence should read, "The terms parallel and segregated should be used carefully considering the multiplicity of connections in the brain and the tendency for overlap of the various cortical-fugal projections, especially in the ventral striatum." On page 1732, the first sentence of the last paragraph should read, "The subdivision of the striatal complex into ventral (orange), central (yellow), and dorsal (blue) territories (Figure 9), which is based on the distribution of isocortical frontal lobe and nonisocortical limbic lobe projections to the striatum, serves as a good starting point for any discussion for cortical-subcortical reentrant circuits." On page 1727, in the right column, the next to the last sentence should read, "The proper selection of tissue fragments for the identification of degenerating boutons and their postsynaptic elements by the electron microscope is impossible without prior visualization of the stained terminal end structures by the optic microscope."
