Electronic Edition for Residents

1) Journal Club Kit

One of the month’s featured articles presented with an overview, discussion questions, and an editorial by a senior member of the field that places the article into context and outlines its strengths and limitations. The May issue will discuss Johan Kakko et al.’s "A Stepped Care Strategy Using Buprenorphine and Methadone Versus Conventional Methadone Maintenance in Heroin Dependence. "

2) Clinical Education Article

Case presentations to illustrate a major point in clinical practice or to highlight unique treatment approaches. The May issue will feature Kenneth I. Shulman et al. ’s "Assessment of Testamentary Capacity and Vulnerability to Undue Influence."

3) Editor’s Column

A guide on what to look for in the Journal, and how to read and interpret original articles for the maximum in educational value.

4) Resident Submissions

What has made this initiative particularly lively are articles from residents, who are providing instructive cases, descriptions of unique programs, perspectives on training and career development, research findings, and comments arising from journal club discussions. Original submissions from residents have discussed wide-ranging and informative topics, from beginning a career in research, to Internet-based cognitive behavior therapy as treatment for panic disorder, to the use of law enforcement in the emergency transportation of mentally ill patients.

If you would like to submit a short piece for publication in the Residents’ Journal, please visit our website at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com//appi-ajp. Once there you will need to create a user account if you do not already have one. Please designate your submissions as "Resident Journal," and please keep to under 500 words. Your participation will ensure the continued success of this e-publication.
