The authors investigated the relationship between items on the Beck
Depression Inventory and CSF levels of corticotropin-releasing hormone
(CRH) in 17 depressed patients. Linear regression analysis showed that
self-accusation, expectation of punishment, and crying accounted for 82% of
CRH variance.
