Twelve filicidal men were examined on a forensic psychiatric service. The
majority suffered from severe mental impairments due to psychosis,
neurological disorders, substance abuse, or mental retardation. Most of the
filicidal acts committed by these chronically impaired men resulted from
isolated explosive behavior.
