Controlled study of verapamil for treatment of panic disorder
E Klein and TW Uhde
Unit on Anxiety and Affective Disorders, Biological Psychiatry Branch, NIMH, Bethesda, MD 20892.
The authors conducted a 16-week double-blind, crossover study in 11
patients with panic disorder to study the effects of verapamil, a calcium
channel blocker commonly used in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders,
on the treatment of panic disorder. Their findings suggest that verapamil
has modest antianxiety and antipanic properties.
