The effects of phenylethylamine in rhesus monkeys
JR Tinklenberg, JC Gillin, GM Murphy Jr, R Staub and RJ Wyatt
In controlled experiments rhesus monkeys that had received phenylethylamine
(PEA) demonstrated behavior similar to that reported after the
administration of amphetamines, except that tolerance to PEA did not
develop. These findings are of psychiatric interest because PEA is found in
the human body and is a specific substrate for type B MAO, which is found
in decreased quantities in certain schizophrenic patients.
