As the field of social and community psychiatry continues to expand, psychiatrists are obliged to bring their knowledge and experience to bear on matters of directing and implementing change. The authors describe the role of the psychiatrist as an active agent of change in coordinating a placement program for disturbed adolescents in Los Angeles County, Calif.
