A Comparison of Physician Education in the USSR and the United States

This paper contains observations of Soviet medicine made by the author during a recent scientific visit. He describes the influence of public policy on Soviet medicine, the emphases in training and practice, the role of women, and the steps in the training of physicians in the USSR. Comparing medicine in the USSR and the United States, the author relates his observations to changes that are taking place in American medicine.
