Twenty-six agitated acute schizophrenic patients in a state hospital received intramuscular injections of either piperacetazine or chlorpromazine. Three rating scales were used to assess the effects of the drugs. Both drugs were found to be effective in producing significant improvement in the patients. Piperacetazine appeared to be more potent than chlorpromazine. No side effects were observed.
