Psychiatry in the United States and the USSR: A Comparison

On the basis of personal observations made during a recent tour of the Soviet Union and on an investigation of the literature on Soviet psychiatry, the author presents a brief description of psychiatry in the USSR, a comparison of the Soviet and American systems of psychiatry, and a discussion of the advantages and disadvantages of each system.
