This overview presents a selected survey of psychiatric research trends in the United States from 1963 to 1972. The principal sources for the survey were articles published in the American Journal of Psychiatry and the Archives of General Psychiatry, along with articles from the Journal of Psychiatric Research and abstracts submitted for presentation in the New Research sessions at APA's 1972 and 1973 annual meetings. The authors describe several interesting trends and developments that are reflected in the articles surveyed.
