As part of the Stirling County study of sociocultural factors affecting psychiatric symptoms, selected cases are being examined in an attempt to shed light on the process of recovery. The subject presented here (a fictional composite of several cases) not only lost the symptoms that had distressed her for much of her life but effected a more mature adjustment. This is explained with emphasis on the concepts of latent role repertoire, role change, and role rehearsal.
