Over a period of four months, 16 heroin addicts were treated on an open general psychiatric unit connected with a large municipal hospital. Their treatment was coordinated with an addict treatment center staffed primarily by ex-addicts. While long-term results are not assessed, it is shown that addicts can be treated briefly in this setting and that staff and trainees receive valuable training.
