A psychoanalytic view of the community mental health agency is presented. Particular process problems can arise in agency/community (analyst/patient) relations, internal administrative and paperwork problems, and personnel conflicts leading to "agency neurosis." If the agency is to conduct its community mental health functions optimally, it must first have a clear sense of its own identity and purpose.
