WALTER E. BARTON M.D.1
1 Medical director, American Psychiatric Association, 1700 Eighteenth St., N.W., Washington, D. C. 20009, and clinical professor of psychiatry, Boston University School of Medicine
The author assumes that psychiatrists wish to participate in the social evolution and revolution that are today's reality. However, he cautions against over-enthusiasm for the new fashions in psychiatry and stresses the need for careful evaluation and for the continuing pursuit of excellence. He also cites a number of areas and issues needing thoughtful study by psychiatrists.
