Continuing Education for Psychiatrists: Programs and Techniques

PAUL T. WILSON M.D.1

1 Principal investigator, information processing project, American Psychiatric Association, 1700 18th St. N.W., Washington, D. C. 20009

Of 1,847 institutions responding to a survey by the Task Force on Continuing Education for Psychiatrists, 51 sponsored courses meeting the questionnaire's criteria. Sponsors were distributed geographically in the same relative density as psychiatrists. Universities, state and county institutions for the mentally ill, and psychoanalytic institutes were most active. Courses varied widely. Increasing interest in continuing education suggests that these data reflect a situation that will soon change dramatically.
