To test the validity of current assumptions about the relationship between the patient's attitude toward drug therapy and his clinical response to it, a double-blind study was conducted with 20 outpatients. The author found that treatment outcome, as measured by degree of clinical change, was related to severity of illness but was not related to patients' attitudes toward drug therapy.
