Transcultural Psychiatry, Human Similarities, and Socioeconomic Evolution

Transcultural psychiatry may be viewed as the study of behavior reflecting the shared vicissitudes of culture and the similar tendencies that exist within all cultures. Emphasizing the similarities in human behavior under various cultural settings, the author concludes that the mental health of any underprivileged group may be evaluated in terms of two major factors—multiple impairment and cultural exclusion.
