The psychiatrist who works within a community agency may find it difficult to incorporate his desire to help the patient with the community's expectation of protection from the potentially dangerous patient. The author describes the orientation and structure of a student psychiatric service which he feels provides the psychiatrist with enough power to be of service to the university community and yet sets limits on his ability to compromise the rights of the patient.
