R. J. KERRY M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., D.P.M.1, and G. OWEN M.B., M.C. PATH.2

1 Consultant psychiatrist, Middlewood Hospital, Sheffield, England
2 Consultant chemical pathologist, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, Eng.

Treatment with lithium carbonate has stabilized a group of patients with long-standing manic-depressive illness. The authors feel that lithium may be useful in the biochemical study of these illnesses as well as in their treatment.
