The Present Status of Psychiatric Theory

In reviewing some contemporary issues in psychiatric theory, the author concludes that the mind-body split remains as an unsolved problem and a focus of discomfort for theoreticians. He feels that while many concepts of classic and neo-Freudian psychoanalysis must be recognized as valuable and durable contributions, others are in need of revision. Among the areas he believes to be most in need of consideration is cognition.
