Innovations in Military Corrections

DAVID B. ROBBINS M.D.1

1 Chief Resident Physician, Department of Psychiatry, New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center, Westchester Division, 21 Bloomingdale Road, White Plains, N. Y. 10605

The 3320 USAF Retraining Group, an open correctional and rehabilitative facility for Air Force prisoners initiated 14 years ago, represents a marked innovation in military corrections. Short-term intensive treatment in this facility has produced a rate of return to duty averaging 51 percent, and short-term success rates for those returned to duty average 82 percent. The results of the Retraining Group program compare favorably with those of other civilian and military facilities.
