COMPARISON OF TWO PSYCHIATRIC SERVICES

N. GOLD D.P.M., and R. A. PARGITER D.P.M.1

1 Tasmania, Australia

Two psychiatric practices, one private and the other essentially the same except that it is a part of a free government service, are compared by surveying 200 concurrent patients from each. Certain data were extracted from the case notes and compared. Generally speaking, there was surprisingly little difference between the two practices except in age structure, the private practice having older patients for which some reasons are given. Other differences seem to follow from this difference in age structure.
