THE USE OF PROTRYPTYLINE (MK-240) AS AN ANTIDEPRESSANT A PRELIMINARY REPORT
WILFRED DORFMAN M.D.
1. Protryptyline (MK-240) is an effective antidepressant.
2. Its major usefulness appears to be for patients with retardation and apathy without agitation. Patients with marked agitation did poorly; in some patients agitation emerged as the depression was lifted.
3. The drug showed some promise in depressed psychoneurotic patients with obsessive compulsive defenses.
4. In some patients the preference for medications given prior to protryptyline seemed to be related to psychological considerations rather than to the physiological effects of the drug.
