THE TREATMENT OF AMBULATORY ADOLESCENT SCHIZOPHRENIA WITH ACETOPHENAZINE

HARRY F. DARLING M. D.

Relative remission was obtained in 72% of adolescents and children having ambulatory schizophrenia when treated with acetophenazine. The great majority were early cases. Due to the fact that the drug is chemically a piperazine phenothiazine jaundice and leukopenia were not factors of undue concern. Pharmacologically the drug resembles aliphatic phenothiazines so that the problem of parkinsonism was reduced in comparison with other piperazines, although the percentage of lethargy was considerably higher than in its chemical analogs.
