1 Biochem. Research Lab., VA Hospital, Palo, Calif., Dept. Exp. Psychiatry, N. Y. State Psychiatric Institute, Food and Drug Administration, Boston, Mass.

1. A method for the determination of urinary chlorpromazine and its metabolites employing adsorption on Dowex 50 W-X4 cation exchange resin is described.

2. Polar, intermediary oxidative and conjugated metabolites constitute by far the largest drug fraction, amounting to approximately 80% of total urinary drug.

3. One half of administered daily drug doses was found to be excreted in the urine.

4. Recoveries by this method range from 88% to 97%.
