CONTROLLING THE CHRONICALLY DISTURBED PATIENT WITH MASSIVE PHENOTHIAZINE THERAPY

The successful management of an acutely disturbed ward rests in the control of the chronically disturbed and combative patients. A regimen utilizing an average 700 mg. Throzine (or equivalent ) daily resulted in marked improvement in the behaviour and ajustment of 8 "hard core" refactory patients. Multiple attempts by other means had failed to elicit a sustained improvement. An extremealy low incidence of side effects was encountered. The question of control of difficult patient is usually : 1. Which tranquilizer; 2. In what dosage; 3. Over what period of time.
