ALBERT H. FECHNER M. D.1, and RICHARD H. ANDERSON M. D.2

1 Manager, Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Douglas Station, Salt Lake City, Utah.
2 Chief, Professional Services, Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Douglas Station, Salt Lake City, Utah.

There are several features in the design with which we do not agree. Some of these can be changed or corrected in present structures. Others can be corrected in new hospitals, if our impressions are sustained by the experiences of others. Aside from these, the concepts that have led to the design of this type hospital are sound and are a marked improvement over the traditional neuropsychiatric hospital. A long step has been taken to bring the design and architecture in line with the advances made in psychiatry.
