THE PSYCHIATRIC SIDE-EFFECTS OF IPRONIAZID

GEORGE E. CRANE M. D.1

1 The Division of Pulmonary Diseases, Montefiore Hospital, Westchester Division, Bedford Hills, New York.

Iproniazid is a powerful stimulant which can be very useful in the treatment of debilitated individuals. Its use is limited because of the severity and frequency of side-effects. The psychiatric complications are more frequent than the systemic or neurological toxic reactions. Poor psychiatric risks should not be treated with Iproniazid; all patients receiving the drug should be under constant psychiatric observation.
