CASE REPORTS

HEMIPLEGIA FOLLOWING ELECTROSHOCK THERAPY

ROBERT E. THOMAS M. D.

1. A case is reported of complete right hemiplegia following the first electroconvulsive treatment in a physically healthy 43-year-old man with a psychotic depression.

2. A brief review of 3 somewhat similar cases is reported from the literature.

3. A 16-month follow-up reveals the continued remission of the initial depression and partial recovery from the hemiplegia.
