PREFRONTAL LEUCOTOMY
Remarks on the Pathophysiology of the Brain

Based upon 103 cases of prefrontal leucotomy, our experience shows that the operation should be performed in those cases that have failed to respond to other therapy and have become chronic. In many such cases the results are most satisfactory from the medical as well as from the social point of view. An attempt is made to explain the effect of leucotomy upon various mental disorders based upon conjectures concerning the pathophysiology of the brain.
