PARTICIPATION IN INSTITUTIONAL TREATMENT BY SELECTED RELATIVES

FERNAND COTE M. D., T. E. DANCEY M. D., , and JEAN SAUCIER M. D.1

1 Attending Psychiatrists Sanatorium Prevost, Montreal.

This paper demonstrates the value of a rather simple plan whereby a selected relative accompanies a patient to a private voluntary psychiatric hospital. The advantages are economic, educational, and, in some instances, therapeutic. The only significant disadvantages arise from the improper choice of the participating family member. Brief case reports are included.
