The design, implementation, and first year's experience in the operation of a psychiatry track program for medical students is discussed, with particular attention to the educational objectives of the track; the inclusion of a 12-week multidisciplinary period of seminars in anthropology, sociology, psychology, psychopharmacology, neuropathology, neuroanatomy, genetics, human sexuality, and psychopathology; and a system of clinical electives permitting the students considerable flexibility in focusing or diversifying their clinical experience.
