Abstract

The author discusses various approaches to halfway house operations, including the emergence of a philosophy arising from an experimental project in England and the subsequent establishment of a halfway house organization. She reviews problems encountered in setting up adequate halfway house facilities and government attitudes in the U. K. and the U. S. and makes suggestions for initiating a flexible yet consistent halfway house program.
