The author describes her period of training as a mental health assistant and her current work with individual patients, home visiting, child and parent groups, and the homemaking service she is developing at the Temple University Community Mental Health Center. She concludes that although mental health centers cannot solve all of society's problems, they must expand their services to meet the needs of the total community, as well as its patients, if they are to be truly effective in the promotion of mental health.
