EEG, EKG, respiratory rate, and galvanic skin response were recorded from a normal 23-year-old male subject under photic and auditory stimulation during a hypnotic session and a control nonhypnotic period. No appreciable differences in responses between the two conditions were found. However, the results of the experiment raise the possibility that a certain type of cerebral activation may characterize the hypnotic state.
