Abstract

1. Statistics are cited indicating that drug addiction in adolescents is not a new problem and moreover the opiate addiction involves primarily adolescents and young adults.2. The problem of heroin addiction is complex and multifaceted involving sociologic, economic, and psychiatric determinants. After all other factors are considered there remains a large and constant psychological factor.3. A heroin addict personality type among adolescents is delineated and its characteristics are discussed.4. Drug addiction in young people is related to the critical problem of adolescence, that of making the transition to adult status and responsibility.
