Abstract

In this preliminary study, less than one-third of the treatment programs for drug abusers and narcotic addicts in Pennsylvania were rated as satisfactory. Therapeutic community programs were rated significantly higher than other programs. The authors cite the importance of identifying specific factors that may be related to high-quality programs as a step toward improving the quality of the overall treatment effort.
