Abstract

The author discusses patient-prisoners on forensic psychiatry units who seek to improve their situation by contacting the courts by means of writs. This practice is becoming increasingly evident as more attention is focused on the rights of prisoners and prisoner-patients. Patients who are skillful in this area may not only improve their legal situations, but may also acquire added prestige among fellow patients.
